Relationships are highly valued in poverty cultures, often at the expense of other aspects of living. Parents’ thinking
is often consumed with simple survival, like saving enough money for groceries, rent and utilities. Often these parents
don’t understand how to help their children learn basic skills.
At Wonder Club, building relationships with our students’ parents is the first step to helping our students. One example is Micah, whose mother was a single mom. Besides caring for Micah, she had a younger child at home and was going to school as well.
