  • Hungry for more...

Its very difficult at times to get young youth involved in any church activity. They usually think that "church stuff" it's boring and not fun. However, on wednesday nights, my church has a program called 'Calvary Clubs' where the children learn character traits from the word of God. The lord has blessed me in having a van full attend almost every wednesday night and for that I'm a grateful!! The last two weeks they have been preparing for a play and the children had to be at church by 10am on a Saturday morning. They gave up their Saturday morning ...

  • How great is our God

Back in October, God brought me a young girl name Mary*. She had the sweetest smile and a huge hope for love and acceptance. God quickly gravitated her to me, the more I got to know her, the more I sensed her need and desire for a mothers love and influence and for God’s love and forgiveness.
Her biological mother lives and works in another state and comes down once a month or so to see her. Whenever Mary* talks about her mother I can hear the longing in her voice and desire her eyes to just be ...

  • Volunteering changed me

It’s been a couple of months since I started volunteering at Teen Haven York with the elementary program. It’s been an amazing adventure so far, as I have helped these girls learn and have fun. Being there has been a humbling experience for me; they inspire me to have fun with the Word of God and to seek Him with a childlike faith! It has been an honor being there for them and setting an example!

Helping at Teen Haven has planted a seed of leadership in me which is something I thought I could never accomplish. I never thought ...

  • Blessed

My blessing for the month of March is one of our Philadelphia teens named Andy*. His first time at camp was in March of 2006 and he has been a regular attender here since then. We have had the great privilege of watching him grow in Christ and the Lord has used our ministry to help him do so. In January he answered the Lord's call on his life to become an assistant supervisor, as so many have before him. He has not missed a week-end , And has also been serving in the kitchen on girls week-ends. It is wonderful ...

  • Never forgot....

A camper of the past calls for support. Thelma was a sensitive young lady. She was tender to the Lord but her family life became too much. She would always call when hurting. I did not hear from her for at least 6 years.  Finally a call. “Just wanted you to know that I think of the camp often. I learned much there. My mother passed away, my brother was killed at nineteen over drugs, and now I have an eight year old daughter and a four year old Autistic son.  He is so special!" She continued to share her heart ...

  • An Anchor for the Storms of Life

When he was 15, a friend invited Manny to come to Teen Haven. He loved to play basketball in our gym, but it was the kindness of the staff that really drew him. Soon he received Christ as his Savior. Over time, he showed himself to be faithful, available and teachable, and we invited him to become a student leader. He accepted and excelled.

Then tragically, Manny’s parents divorced. His dad, whom he dearly loved, moved away to Texas. His mother stopped going to church. His home life dramatically changed.

Manny was crushed, and his actions showed it. He started ...

  • Everyone

I got a call this week from a lady named Kim who has been involved with us in the past as a parent.  She is in relationship with many refugee families in her neighborhood and is actually bringing about 7 different girls to our retreat this weekend.  She said a lot of these neighborhood kids have never heard of Jesus Christ before and Teen Haven might be the only one sharing this message; it’s making a difference not just for the kids but in their families of various religious backgrounds too. It's encouraging to know that we are making ...

  • Forgiveness

Last week during our devotional we talked about forgiveness. Each girl shared what they felt forgiveness was and who deserved it. The good thing is that the girls were receptive to this discussion. Some of the girls felt that whoever did the hurting or wounding does not deserve forgiveness and needs to work for it, if they desired it. Others said that if they made a mistake you can let them off the hook; forgive, but NEVER forget. As our discussion continued some of their hearts started to turn when true forgiveness was explained and even more ...

  • Thank you...

The other day, Carl un-expectedly came to my home and rang my door bell. He told me he was in the neighborhood and wanted to say hello. As we caught up and talked, he thanked me for being in his life in his early Teen Haven years. He shared with me how he first came to know Jesus Christ at the Teen Haven camp and how he could come to a place to hear the word of God and be challenged to live for Jesus. We laughed at how he was “always right” and everybody else was wrong ...

  • Picking up the Baton

*Larry dropped out of high school with “plans” to get his GED. As time quickly advanced, a year passed by and he never took the initiative to enroll in the GED classes. Much has been going on in his personal life at home with his family. As he shared his hurt and pain that he has gone through, consistency in the ministry has allowed him to trust the staff here at Teen Haven. As we spoke, he took personal responsibility for his actions, lack of motivation and not following through with his plans. Together we enrolled him in ...
